Wouldn't it be funny to comment in mock disappointment to our JW families that we didn't receive an invite this year?
Too antagonistic.

No special campaign to invite the public to the DC this year...
by sir82 in...per the may 2008 km.. it does give a hint about the "future campaign" that i noted earlier in this thread though: .
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/154825/1.ashx.
i guess they finally figured out that people are not likely to drive 50-300 miles to a fringe group's religious convention after receiving a smarmy invitation from a stranger at their door..

I ATTENDED A JW FUNERAL YESTERDAY---WOW!
by Terry inback in 1959 i became best friends with a fellow who was instrumental in my becoming a jehovah's witness.
yesterday i attended his mother's funeral.. from the time i was 12 years old i became a part of johnny's family and got to know his mother, jennie, very well.
in fact, she was more instrumental in convincing me there was intellectual merit to the reasoning process of consulting the bible and drawing jw conclusions than any of the arguments johnny and i had.. fast forward a bit.

Family funerals are what I'm dreading, and there's two scheduled in the not too distant future if you know what I mean. I'm not disfellowshipped, but I imagine I will struggle to deal with the attention and feelings of hatred for the system.
Thanks for the experience. -

I dont know what to do
by Ex-smoker inok so i was raised in the truth and a lot of jw belifes are indoctrinated in me(big suprize) the main ones being that the dead are conscies of nothing and that jesus is gods son and not god.
i never got baptized and at 17 i started to doubt all orginized religion but in the back of my mind saying that if theres no hell why serve god.
at 21 my life was a mess i was addicted to drugs and thought that it was satans system that was doing this to me and i should give the truth a chance again so i moved back home.

People who get baptised to please other people are very likely to regret that decision later. Even if it made things easier for you temporarily it could ruin things again later.
Can you seek the support of professional helpers for things like drugs? -

Hello Edict Of Death.
Could you find out and post whether or not she is baptised?
Also, what are her reasons for wanting to leave? Is she genuine about that?
As others have said, retain your autonomy and don't sacrifice yourself to the organisation. -

Challenge to Christians to read this! What do you make of this?
by chrisjoel inthe gospel story, with its figure of jesus of nazareth, cannot be found before the gospels.
in christian writings earlier than mark, including almost all of the new testament epistles, as well as in many writings from the second century, the object of christian faith is never spoken of as a human man who had recently lived, taught, performed miracles, suffered and died at the hands of human authorities, or rose from a tomb outside jerusalem.
there is no sign in the epistles of mary or joseph, judas or john the baptist, no birth story, teaching or appointment of apostles by jesus, no mention of holy places or sites of jesus career, not even the hill of calvary or the empty tomb.

Christianity entered a new future founded on a monumental misunderstanding of its own past
Sounds just like what we silly humans would do. Thanks for the post.

How do I get over my Family treating me Like an Outcast
by moonpie inhello, i've been disfellowshipped for almost six years and it's still hard not being able to communicate with them.
i talk to my mom once a week, but my dad won't pick up the phone to talk to me.
i have 3 brothers and 6 sisters.

Sorry to hear that moonpie, and welcome.
A thought which suddenly popped into my head was this: pretending to be interested again in order to get your family's guard down so that you can pose questions/points in a non-aggressive way with a view to getting them thinking.
Obviously this depends on your history and would have its own implications for you and your freedom. Just wanted to throw it up here.
Are you a bad person for having those feelings? I think you know the answer to that, no? -

First Active JW lured in some help please....
by Tuesday ini posted a few days ago that i had started my series of "tough questions" for jehovah's witnesses.
shockingly so far i've only gotten positive comments.
today i got my first negative comment obviously from a witness.

Stop second guessing Jehovah and leave it with him, you arrogant, self-righteous independent thinker.
Seriously, though, all the best with it. :) Maybe ask if God will require that children will have had a witness before he kills them? -

Hello Sebastian, and welcome!
All the best with living the rest of your life in all its diversity outside of high control groups.
Something you may wish to consider before beginning your exit: would you like to set your relatives free, too? If so, your chances of doing so are much greater whilst you're still in. You can bring up topics and frame them as if you're asking for clarification/help.
If you haven't already, I suggest you give it serious thought. Of course, there are loads here who are ready to listen and help if they can so keep posting. -

An angel appeared to me...
by AlmostAtheist inat least, i assume it was an angel.
(the 'wings' were a clue!
this angel spake unto me, saying, 'start for me a stupid topic, that i may amuse myself with it.

I'd appear to all those people who make up stories about angels appearing and tell them to stop it.
